Vogel Integrated Campus, Aitken Street, Wellington
This project entailed demolition and removal of two 12,000 litre diesel storage tanks, air conditioning plant and three boilers, including 400 diameter flues from the service duct room through 19 floors. Concrete floors and walls were saw cut and removed, the exterior stone panel façade was removed for salvage and the gas room, external stairs and canopy structure were taken out.
Asbestos tiles from exterior floor ledges were removed and disposed of and sections of exterior floors, sunshades and decorative steel tubes from the exterior corners removed.
Demolition was phased to allow construction and integration of a new eight storey building into the existing structure.
Methodology and task analysis was carried out for each different activity to ensure safety. Much of the work was carried out at height and existing tenants needed to be considered. Most of the work required hard labour with demolished components being cut up into manageable sections to allow removal from the building.
The project was completed on time, within budget and without major incident. The client (Mainzeal) was impressed by Multi Civil’s professional approach to a project carried out under a tight programme with the added challenge of sometimes adverse windy weather conditions.
