Kumutoto Public Spaces

Kumutoto.jpgThe Kumutoto Public Space project involved the strengthening and upgrading of existing wharf structures, demolition of a section of wharf, construction of a pedestrian footbridge, concrete terracing and other bridges, along with services and landscaping. The aim was to improve the public space at the outlet of the Kumutoto Stream on Wellington’s waterfront.

The work was completed in a very public space with the site being subjected to winds and tides. Ground conditions proved difficult with many unforseen obstacles encountered that required significant demolition activity, which was treated as a variation to the contract.

A high standard of finish is apparent, belying the fact that the physical site constraints, weather and ground conditions proved difficult at times.

The project was completed on time and within budget and the site has become a popular and relaxing recreation area for the public and workers in the vicinity.
